Well, we've just come back to our home base in Florida from a 10 week RV trip to Maryland and Ohio in our Camper. Glad to be home.
The plan was to drive up to Ohio to pick up our 22 year old son from College, take him with us to Maryland for a weekend for our cousin's June wedding. We were going to make a few quick visits with dad and some other relatives too. Then we were going to take our son back to Ohio and spend a few short weeks cleaning out our 3 storage bins that we have been paying rent on since we sold our house a year ago and moved to Florida. All in all, we thought we would be in Maryland a week at most and Ohio for the rest of the month long trip we had planned! Ha!
Well things went according to plan only so long. We packed up the camper and took off! No problems. We made it to Ohio and checked into our favorite camp ground, "Punderson State Park". We spent a day or two sorting through our storage bins, groan! We had fun visiting the Lakeland Community College campus, that our son attends and works at during the summers. Then we loaded the camper for our trip to Maryland.
The wedding was wonderful and the bride was beautiful. The groom, our cousin was all grown up ( and a doctor at the John's Hopkin's trauma center ). It was great to see everyone! We spent a day on the Eastern shore visiting the groom's mother and sister, and as usual had a wonderful time at the farm.
Then we stopped by to see my dad who also lives in Maryland. We were supposed to take our son back home to Ohio the next day, and then camp at Lake Punderson again while sorting through our storage bins. It was while we were at my dad's house that our plan when awry. We were only supposed to stay in Maryland for the week-end, but it turned into several LONG weeks, because .....
While there, our son was given a sports car. This was a gift from his Grampa as a reward for being so successful in college. Although this car was NOT currently in running condition, this still delighted our son no end! However, this meant WE had to put our son on a plane back to Ohio, our treat, and WE were left to deal with the transportation of what I now call the car from H**L since it took up about a month of our time and also became, "at our expense". Ah the things parent's do for their children are never ending. The fiasco that accompanied the Toyota's transportation is so long and involved, it will become a separate article, suffice it to say that now that it is over, the series of events is almost funny.
When we finally got back to Ohio, and dropped off our son's car, we began sorting through the above mentioned storage items. We camped at beautiful Lake Punderson State Park, using our Ohio State 'Cardinal Camping Discount card' (Only $25 dollars and gives a 15% discount on camping). On of the many reasons we stay at Punderson is because it is very convenient to our storage facility in Novelty, Ohio so it worked out really well. Since we had the large, now empty, auto trailer, we thought it would be a good idea to take a few trailer loads of our unwanted stuff to sell at the Middlefield Flea Market and Auction.
We made some calls and found out that the Flea Market is only open on Monday's and Saturday's and the auctions are only some Monday's. So we stated the process of packing up what we wanted to sell (that took a few days) and started loading the trailer Sunday night. We had been told that to 'get a spot' you need to be there at 4am. We did very well. We were loaded up, strapped down tight, and heading out to the market at 3am with hot coffee in our mugs. We arrived, in the pitch dark, and were the second couple to get a spot and it was a GREAT SPOT TOO!!!!
This was our first flea market experience but we were set up and ready to go by the time the market opened. We were glad we had picked out a double spot, because we were able to set up our camper in the corner of it and surround ourselves with our flea market items. It was a very hot July 5th, and we were glad to be using a large beach sized umbrella and the camper canopy as shade. Even with the shade, and a camper with cool drinks, the heat was un-bearable. The flea market traffic lasted until about 4pm. We had been busy the whole time. This was the first break we had and ice cream was the order of the day. At about 5pm the last straggler left and the market started closing up. Alot of our neighboring sellers had already packed and left, but we were totally exhausted. I took our dog Carly out for another walk and sent my hubby to bed! I colapsed in a lawn chair in the shade with the dog.
Note to our fellow snow-birds: beware! The market is a very depressed up there, so don't expect to make a lot of money. We were selling household items, on the busiest Monday of the year and did fairly well since we had rock bottom prices just to get rid of unneeded items. It would be a great place to buy items. Our 6-piece sectional sofa, in good shape, brought an unbelievable one dollar at auction. All told, our 9 auction items (tables, desks, video cabinets) netted under $5.00. This was our first flea market experience and I must say that we did better selling things ourselves than letting them go at the outdoor auction.
It was almost dark when we started packing up in earnest. I couldn't believe how much stuff we had left. If you'd like to see what we're currently offering at ebay, now that you know we sell our items at rock bottom prices,
