It's a beautiful sunny day in paradise!
Today is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming election. Get out and be counted!
As my hubby drove me through the Melbourne and Palm Bay areas we saw there
is still a lot of damage from the hurricanes. We saw torn roofs, downed trees,
destroyed signs and piles of debris. But, we also saw: crews of phone company trucks replacing
miles of telephone poles, convoys of cement trucks on their way to repair jobs, lots of roofing
contractors hard at work, people working on their yards & houses and the huge section of 'missing' AIA has been repaired.
We waited at the railroad stop for a freight train to cross with 98 boxcars filled with sand and
small gravel going North. I was thinking maybe it was already heading to rebuild some of the
devastated beaches that were eroded during the storms. It's a rebuilding period.

What's New ! Sunday, OCTOBER 3, 2004 9:45PM EST
Well, this has been a long week!
The power did go out during the hurricane, so we were glad we had moved all our refrigerated
items into the camper. When the wind FINALLY died down, and the rain stopped, my hubby started
up the generator in the back yard so we could plug in he big frig. We originally bought the generator
for boon-docking, but were glad we had it, because the electric was out for several days.
NOTE: If you recently bought a generator because of hurricane Jeanne, hold on
to your receipt, FEMA may pay for it, or at least help you with the cost, if you make a timely claim.
Jeanne WAS mean, she certainly was a stronger hurricane than Frances was.
The winds were up to 110-115 during the height
of it around 3am, and were about 75mph for hours and hours, before and after.
Even though Frances was a larger and longer lasting storm, Jeanne did more damage on the East Coast.
During the storm, we had water come in under the front door that we were able to
mop up and stop with towels. But the wall of our computer room was more of a problem.
There was no water coming in the windows, and the sills were dry, but the water was
coming in from somewhere. The floor had about a half inch of water covering a 3ft.
by 9ft. area. We kept mopping buckets of water up and used about a dozen towels,
but as soon as we'd get it dry, it would come in again where the wall meets the tile floor.
After the storm we had 2 full days of 24 hour curfew because of flooded roads,
downed power lines, and the many traffic lights out of commission, or just plain
MISSING! That was fine with us, we needed 2 days of sleep!
When we finally did get out and about, Amazingly, the boat was just fine AGAIN!
The beaches near Satellite, IHB and Indiatlantic, took a pretty big hit. All the
beach access points and parks are closed and in dis-repair and most of the
neighborhoods look pretty beat up. More trees were snapped in half or uprooted than
during Frances.

What's New ! Wednesday, SEPTEMBER 29, 2004 5:45PM EST
Well, we've survived hurricane Jeanne. The generator worked great, no food was spoiled THIS time! (I learned a hard lesson last huricane, I had to throw out 3 full 30 gallon trash cans of spoiled food.)
The power is finally back on and we have reconnected our pcs. Yesterday, we were able
to ship a few items that sold at eBay while the power was out, although finding gas and an open
post office was a chore. We had to cross the causeway to the mainland and get back to do
a couple of little errands and get home before the evening curfew. It was a long day, so
I'll go into more detail about the hurricane later.
This evening we are just
about to download and answer some email. AND, if time permits, we are
planning to put up some items at eBay (Here's a link to my eBay store?) auctions Thursday through Monday.

simple and inexpensive solution to
monitoring your RV's refrigerator temperature without

What's New ! Saturday, SEPTEMBER 25, 2004 11:45AM EST
Well, right now we have a few little items up for auction at eBay (Why not check out my eBay store?) (one will be over today and 2 will end tomorrow) because we are getting ready for hurricane Jeanne! We thought we would hold off on starting more auctions in case the electricity goes off again making us 'unavailable' to answer questions.
YES, we live in the path of yet ANOTHER windbag, well, at least she's windy-er than me. If you haven't guessed already, our home base in on the East Coast of Florida, aka Hurricane Alley. My hurricane information page has links to the hurricane path and links to the Emergency Email Network. If any off my neighbors in Satellite Beach and Indian Harbour Beach need some ice or water, they can text me on my cell phone, I have plenty of both, but am running out of margarine if you're up for a trade - I'm not going out!
AND on a personal note: YES DAD, the boat is loose and the condo is shuttered and boarded up tight. You'll be getting the tail end of Jeanne in a day or two.

inexpensive Microwave Heating Pad !
